Blood Reagent Products InvestigationJuly 27, 2009 - Seattle, WAWe are investigating allegations concerning price-fixing in the blood reagent industry. Blood reagents are used to determine blood type and to screen blood for contaminants before transfusions. There are only two manufacturers, Immucor and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson). The Federal Trade Commission opened an investigation into possible antitrust violations by Immucor and Ortho in 2007 (view press release - PDF). The Department of Justice announced a criminal grand jury investigation of the two companies in April 2009 (view press release - PDF).
